The Texas Longhorns baseball team forced a deciding Game 3 in the National Championship Series on Tuesday with their 5-1 win over the LSU Tigers. (AP Photo) The LSU Tigers baseball team entered Tuesday night's game with a chance to win the sixth National Championship in school history. After nearly a two hour rain delay, the field in Omaha's Rosenblatt stadium wasn't the only thing that got rained on, as the Tiger's National Championship quest was dampened by Texas pitcher Taylor Jungmann's complete game win. Jungmann cruised to an easy 5-1 victory, as the Longhorns jumped on LSU early and let their ace carry them the rest of the way.
Texas scored one run in each of the first two innings, to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 2nd inning. The LSU Tigers looked like they would hang right in there and roll with the punches, as a fielding error by the Longhorns shortstop allowed Jared Mitchell to score in the bottom half of the inning, to cut the lead to 2-1. But the Longhorns took a firm hold on the game in the top of the third, scoring three run in the inning and extending the lead to 5-1. The pitchers then took over the game and Jungmann struck out nine batters en route to a five hitter, complete game. With the win, Texas forced a third and deciding game for the 2009 NCAA Baseball National Championship. The two teams will battle for collegiate baseball's top prize tomorrow night at 7:00 PM ET. LSU Tigers pitcher Anthony Ranaudo is expected to start on the mound tomorrow night against the Longhorns. |
