The No. 22 Vanderbilt Commodores (24-8, 12-4) finished the season second in the SEC, despite finishing just 1-2 in their last three games, with a semi-final exit from the SEC Tournament.
Vanderbilt enters Thursday night's game against Murray State (30-4, 17-1) as the favorites against the dangerous Ohio Valley Conference champions.
Many analysts have pegged this game as one of the potential big upsets in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, so the Commodores should be well aware of how good Murray State is.
The Racers are an extremely balanced scoring team, having five players that average in double digits in scoring. They take good shots from the floor, shooting over 50 percent, and they have a positive assist-to-turnover ratio.
They play excellent defense, holding their opponents to just over 60 points per game.
However, Murray State is not a particularly big team and Vanderbilt center A.J. Ogilvy could have his way in the paint.
If the Commodores can take advantage of their superior size and athleticism on the defensive end of the floor and frustrate the Racers, they should be able to avoid an upset in the first round.
Here is a look at the statistics each team have compiled over the 2009-10 season, as well as video previews from ESPN:
