Vanderbilt's George Drake (right) will transfer to UAB to play his final season of collegiate basketball. (AP Photo) With a talented freshman class in the 2008-09 season, Vanderbilt Commodores guard George Drake didn't see much action on the hardwood. After head coach Kevin Stallings reeled in yet another talented freshman class, including five star shooting guard John Jenkins, Drake has decided to take his game to the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Drake is a fifth year senior and will try to obtain an NCAA waiver that would allow him to play immediately for the UAB Blazers. During his four year career at Vanderbilt, he saw action in 96 games. In his final year with the Commodores during the 2008-09 season, Drake averaged 17.4 minutes per game and recorded 5.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Head coach Kevin Stallings indicated that there were no hard feelings toward the senior, saying, "We fully support this decision and we wish him the best. He will always be a member of the Vanderbilt basketball family." |
