The spring quarterback competition at Auburn cleared up a little bit on Wednesday as QB Tyrik Rollison told ESPN that he would transfer to Sam Houston State. (Al.com Photo) The Auburn Tigers football team announced will be without quarterback Tyrik Rollison in the future, after Rollison's father told ESPN on Wednesday that his son would transfer to Sam Houston State.
Rollison, a redshirt freshman, was rated as a four-star prospect by the Rivals recruiting service coming out of high school in 2009. He was also rated as the second-best dual-threat quarterback in the nation by Rivals.
He redshirted behind senior quarterback Chris Todd during the 2009 season. He was suspended from the team during the 2009 Outback Bowl for academic reasons, according to his father.
Rollison was apparently unhappy at Auburn and he thought playing time would be an issue.
"He was just unhappy there," his father Michael Kelly said. "I think that's the reason they went out and got another quarterback [Cameron Newton]."
"Ty doesn't want to sit out another season. He is ready to play. He stuck it out but he wants to come home. He's told the coaches he is leaving. Ty plans to finish out his classes, then head to Sam Houston State in time to play this season," he finished.
Auburn still has plenty of options at quarterback. Senior Neil Caudle will compete with former Florida QB Cameron Newton and redshirt freshman Clint Moseley for the starting job in spring practice. |
