Dooley has been signed to a six-year deal that will pay him $1.8 million per year, according to the release. Former Tennessee head coach had a salary of $2.0 million after taking the job at Tennessee.
The $1.8 million deal makes Dooley the ninth-highest paid coach in the SEC, tied with South Carolina's Steve Spurrier, according to the latest figures available. Only Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson will be paid less than Dooley this season.
"In the few short weeks working with Coach Dooley, it is evidence that he is going to do a tremendous job as head coach at the University of Tennessee," athletics director Mike Hamilton said in a statement.
"A great deal of (Dooley's) anticipated success is due to the first-class staff he has assembled to assist him. I look forward to watching them work in the months and years ahead," he finished.
As the head coach at LA Tech, Dooley had a base salary of $405,000 with a maximum annual bonus of $110,000. |
