Florida Gators DT Gary Brown was suspended from the team following his arrest Sunday on two counts of misdemeanor battery. (Gatorsports.com Photo) The offseason woes continued for the Florida Gators football team under head coach Urban Meyer's tenure, as redshirt freshman defensive tackle Gary Brown was arrested early Sunday morning on two counts of misdemeanor battery.
According to a Gainesville police report, Brown struck a woman with an open hand when she tried to kick people out of a party. A second woman intervened and Brown scratched her arms, according to the GPD.
The Gators announced Brown's suspension early Monday morning. Florida begins spring practice on March 17 and Brown could be absent from the start of practice pending the charges.
Brown was released from the Alachua County Jail on his own recognizance.
As a high school star, Brown was rated as a 5-star prospect by the Rivals recruiting service. After performing well in spring practice last year, Brown struggled to break into the defensive line rotation and redshirted during his first year on campus.
