Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Zach Mettenberger was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with underage drinking, disorderly conduct and possession of a fake I.D. (AJC Photo) Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Zach Mettenberger was arrested early Sunday morning outside of a bar in Remerton, Ga., and charged on five counts, including underage drinking, disorderly conduct and possession of a fake I.D.
Mettenberger was expected to compete for the starting quarterback spot along with fellow redshirt freshman Aaron Murray and junior Logan Gray.
Georgia policy mandates a one-game suspension for any player charged with an alcohol-related offense. That means Mettenberger will likely be unavailable when Georgia takes on UL-Lafayette in its September 4 season opener.
According to David Hale of the Ledger-Enquirer, head coach Mark Richt is aware of the offense, but will not rush to decide any further punishments.
The Bulldogs began spring practice on March 4, but are currently on spring break and will not return to practice until March 16. |
