Less than a month after National Signing Day, SEC football teams are already starting to gear up for the start of spring practice.

The LSU Tigers got things going for the Southeastern Conference with an unusually early March 1 start to the spring practice schedule.

In fact, the Tigers started spring practice so early that they will have their spring game before three other SEC teams even have their first practice.

Most teams have already begun offseason workouts, but spring practice gives teams a chance to put the pads back on and get some live action for the last time before the long summer drought.

Florida, Tennessee and Vanderbilt will all start practice midway through this week.

Here is the complete SEC spring practice schedule:

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to us having our Spring practice and game so early?

Not really sure. I guess cold weather would be one difference. I think having it a little later gets the freshmen that enroll early a better chance to get accustomed to the class side of things before jumping into full practice. Not to mention the obvious benefits of having them further along in the strength and conditioning program.

I'm not really sure why LSU has it so early. I know ours always starts the week after spring break so that players can take a break from workouts and then come back fully rested and ready to knock skulls.

Not really, I wouldn't think. As shanksta said, possibly having the extra time to have them in the weight room and getting a feel for things would be an advantage of having it later on, but they keep pushing the dates forward every year it seems, so I don't guess the coaches see too much of a problem with it.
